What should I have already achieved?
At least 12 credits in NCEA Level 2 Mathematics. This is a demanding course and at least a Merit grade in both externals at NCEA Level 2 is recommended to be successful in this course.
What will I learn?
This course could be combined with MAT3 to form ONE course. This needs to be discussed with both course teachers in conjunction with the Learning Advisor.
It is aimed at students who are very comfortable with algebra and who will be studying to advanced tertiary level in pure mathematics or physics or specialised fields such as engineering or architecture.

Level 3 Calculus Course Details
Credits Available: up to 21
Recommended Credits: At least 18 (even when combined with the MAT3 course).
Options for 2025:
Students who passed Complex Numbers in 2024 with a Merit grade or higher will focus on two external standards and may opt to complete the Conic Sections internal if extra credits are needed.
The Conic Sections internal is also available for students who choose not to take Complex Numbers.
This flexible structure is designed to meet diverse student needs and goals.
