General Science L2
What should I have learned?
Know the safety requirements regarding the use of hazardous materials and procedures as covered in any of the Year 11 Science Courses Laboratory Safety Skills units. (If you did not do any of the Y11 Science Course, please ensure your course teacher is aware of this as Safety in the Lab for practical work is essential).
Who should enroll?
General Science L2 is beneficial for learners who want to learn the basics and fundamentals from different Science Learning Areas without heavily specailsing into any specific one. It also can provide a technical pathway in foundation courses at Tertiary & Polytech institutions (e.g. Nursing, Chiropractic, applied Sciences, entry into Trades Academy)
General Science L2 is an open entry course and is suitable for any Level 2 learner with a general passion for Science.
Learners are allowed to take any combination of all Level 2 Science Courses. (Level 2 Biology, Chemistry, Physics and/or General Science).
What will I learn in this course?
This course aims to provide learners with some general skills and knowledge across the difference Science learning areas - Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Earth & Space Science.
This course can provide a pathway for
General Science 3
Diploma/Trades courses at MIT & AUT (that requires 12 credits of higher in "Science" credits)
Further tertiary studies at Universities, or Polytechnic Institutions.
How will this course be assessed?
The course has been well structured to provide students with a varied range of assessment opportunities, such as report writing & practical investigations skills, as well as assessments under examination conditions.
All decisions about your choice of standards must be made following a discussion with your teacher and your LA to ensure the implications for future course selection and career pathways are well understood.
What are the important assessment information?
The timing of assessments: The course is personalised to each individual student, therefore planner will be given at the start of the year when choices are made.
Resubmission opportunity will be only allowed where they take a student from "Not Achieved" grade to an " Achieved" grade.
NZQA/NCEA requirements: as a student you must be fully aware of the coursework requirements outlined regarding: authenticity, absence, appeals, reassessment, resubmission, misconduct, late work, attendance, course completion and endorsement requirements.
