They should be familiar with safety management practices across a range of outdoor activities, ensuring they can assess and mitigate risks effectively. Additionally, students should be able to explore and articulate the significance of the outdoor environments utilized in this course, appreciating the cultural, environmental, and recreational value of these spaces. These skills are essential for maximizing learning and participation in the advanced activities offered in Outdoor Education 3.

In Outdoor Education 3, students will build on the foundational skills and knowledge gained in the Outdoor Education 2 course, further developing their capabilities in a variety of outdoor pursuits. This program focuses on advancing practical skills in tramping, bushcraft, snorkeling, paddle boarding, sailing, kayaking, first aid, and mountain biking. Students will learn to navigate and lead in outdoor environments, enhance their safety and survival skills, and gain confidence in both individual and team settings. This course aims to foster a deeper connection to the outdoors while equipping students with the skills needed for lifelong outdoor recreation and leadership.

EOTC Field Trips

Please be aware that engaging fully in NCEA Level 3 Outdoor Education will involve participation in a range of activities, some of which will incur costs. These costs cover experiences facilitated by paid external providers, including activities such as indoor rock climbing, accommodation in huts, snorkeling, surfing, and high ropes courses.

While these paid trips offer valuable learning opportunities, students will have the option to select and participate in free alternatives as well. We encourage students and families to consider these options to ensure all students can participate in the program in a way that suits their circumstances.

For more detailed information about specific costs and free options, please consult the course outline or speak with the Outdoor Education coordinator.
