Introduction :
(i) The Year 13, NCEA L3 Te Reo Māori class is administered and supervised over the entire 2023 year. Classes are timetabled for :
Tuesday Period 3
Wednesday Period 1 and
Friday Period 5
(ii) Students are expected to attend all classes during the year
(iii) The class will be supervised by Matua Willie Ropata
(iv) The members of this class will engage in a variety of learning activities designed to educate, empower and enhance akonga's taha Māori, 'ahakoa ko wai, ahakoa nō hea'.
What will I learn?
This course is designed to support students to continue to access and develop their understanding of Aotearoa New Zealand's indigenous language, Te Reo Māori and continue their journey from Yr 12. Students will extend their learning, prepare for externals at the end of the year and participate in a number of exercises and challenges to improve their understanding of the Te Reo Māori language and also some of the traditional practices associated with the Māori world. This will be achieved via a combination of mahi reo and in-class activities working alongside the OSC Year 12 tauira. These activities include -
Extending basic grammar knowledge
Learning Kupu hou (new vocabulary)
Reciting more complex mihi
Preparaing and learning epeha and kawai rangatira
Learning Karakia
Participating in Mahi toi
Writing (mini) essays
Responding to directions
