Level 2 Product Design at Ormiston Senior College is a hands-on, creative course that introduces you to design thinking and the product development process. You’ll work from a design brief that challenges you to explore, experiment, and refine your ideas while developing technical skills in drawing, modelling, and using digital tools. The course prepares you for Level 3 Product Design, a University-approved subject, and provides a foundation for further study and careers in areas such as industrial and product design, furniture design, and various engineering pathways.
Active participation in the Product Design Semester course in Level 1, or experience in another Technology subject is ideal.
A work ethic and sufficient time management skills to complete a large portfolio over of work over a number of terms.
In this course, you will learn to apply creative and technical skills to solve design challenges. You’ll develop your ability to research, experiment, and critically reflect on your ideas, using sketching, modelling, CAD software, and 3D printing to communicate your designs. You’ll also learn basic workshop practices, including safe use of tools and materials. Projects will take you from initial concept through iterative development to a final product, helping you build practical skills, problem-solving ability, and a confident personal design style. The course prepares you for Level 3 Product Design and further study in design and engineering pathways.
This course leads to Level 3 Product Design and further study or careers in areas such as industrial and product design, furniture design, 3D design, engineering, and other creative technology pathways.
