SCHOLARSHIP GEOGRAPHY
SCHOLARSHIP GEOGRAPHY
Ormiston Senior College provides a challenging and demanding academic course for Year 13 Geography students to participate in the NZQA Scholarship exams. This course challenges the most capable Geography (GEO3) and/or Education for Sustainability (EfS3) students.
Students sit the Scholarship exams in consultation with Miss Harvey and are supported by workshops in school throughout the year. Scholarship exams, which comprise three question components and take place at the end of the year.
Students need to demonstrate independence and be able to develop a coherent "factual" argument in reply to information and resources provided. Students need to write with sophistication and maturity to demonstrate a depth of understanding using a range of geographic concepts and skills.
Scholarship Topic: Each Year, the nature of the topic will change. For example, last year, the topic was "Energy Use in a Global Context" in 2022, and the topic was "Urban Growth of Cities" before that "Global Supply of Water". The nature of the topic will be available at the start of the year.
Scholarship Workshops & Guest Speakers: Geography Scholarship workshops begin in Term 1 to prepare students for this challenging exam. The time will be held during Lunchtime. You will also have access to 3 or 4 different Guest Speakers via the University of Auckland, which takes place after school either at the City Campus or the University of Auckland during the evening. You will need to make your own transport arrangements. Videos of the talks are available, but the availability of this is not guaranteed, and the quality is often poor.
Scholarship Workbooklet: Digital Copies are available via Google Classroom. It is strongly recommended that you print them for use.
