Level 2 Media Studies explores how meaning is created in film, television, and other forms of media, focusing on the hidden messages and ideas that sit beneath what we see on screen. You will learn how media texts are constructed and how they influence audiences through techniques such as camera work, editing, sound, and symbolism.

The skills developed in Level 2 Media Studies are valuable across a wide range of career pathways because they focus on understanding how meaning is created in film, television, and other media. This includes recognising the “hidden meanings” behind images, messages, and storytelling choices that shape how audiences interpret media.
These skills are particularly useful in careers such as film and television production, journalism, advertising, public relations, and digital content creation. In these industries, professionals need to understand how media influences audiences and how to create messages that are clear, engaging, and purposeful.
Level 2 Media Studies also supports pathways in creative industries such as filmmaking, screenwriting, directing, and editing, where understanding visual storytelling, symbolism, and audience impact is essential.
In addition, the ability to critically analyse media is valuable in many other fields, including marketing, communications, and media research, where interpreting messages and understanding audience response is important.
Overall, this course helps develop the ability to think critically about media and understand deeper meanings--a skill that will be helpful in tertiary study.
