Talking about matching your skills and strengths

Your second Pathways and Careers portfolio meeting with your Learning Advisor will centre around your skills. You can self assess against the Student Career Management Competencies to get an idea of the skills that you'll need to be successful once you have completed your studies at Ormiston Senior College.

After you have completed some reflection activities you should also be discussing:

Year 12s and Year 13s should be reviewing and reflecting on - results from your previous year's study, your career research in DreamCatcher and course options for this year's study.

Year 11s and new students, there are 5 steps below that you should take before you make your second Pathways and Careers portfolio meeting with your LA.

1. Go to DreamCatcher (under the Web based applications tab) and complete the self-assessments under 'Key Competencies', 'Values' and 'Personal Development' (you only need to do this once while on your journey at Ormiston Senior College - but you can choose to complete it again if you think your skills and values have changed).

2. Go to Careers NZ Skills Matcher to generate some job ideas around your strengths and interests

3. Go to Careers NZ Subject Matcher to generate some job ideas around your strengths and interests

4. Go to Careers NZ CareerQuest to generate some job ideas around your strengths and interests

5. Select at least 5 careers ideas from the 'Fields of Interest' in DreamCatcher 'Career Ideas'. You need to select 'Yes' for each field and 'Save' at the bottom of each page before it appears in your 'Accepted Ideas'.
