What should I have already achieved?
You should have an interest in finding out how our society works and how past events can impact upon our lives. Also have an interest in New Zealand and Global History.
What will I learn?
We will be learning historical skills through the following topics:
The theme for Level 1 History is Colonisation and Persecution.
  • New Zealand History
    • New Zealand has a relatively short history when compared to other nations, however there is many historical events in Aotearoa which are of great significant to our culture and who we are today. During this topic, we will be looking at events in which New Zealand history has not always been that of positivity - looking from the invasion of Parihaka, to New Zealand's involvement with Sāmoa and the Mau Movement; and in between.
  • Korean History
    • While many may not know it, New Zealand has a strong connect to the Korean Peninsula due to our involvement in the Korean War and the aftermath of that still 'ongoing war'. Thirty-three New Zealander's lost their lives during the war, and several after the war had 'finished' while still serving in Korea.
  • Possible other topics
    • There may be other topics which students are interested in, in relation to Colonisation and Persecution which could possibly be brought into the course as the year develops.
How will this course be assessed?
From a choice of 5 NCEA Level 1 Achievement Standards:
  • Three internally assessed standards that make up 12 credits (all students will need to attempt these)
  • Two externally assessed standards that make up 8 credits
Will there be any FAO?  (Further Assessment Opportunities)
There will be no FAOs available in this Level 1 course.
Are there any Pre-requisites for Year 12 History?
Ideally at least 12 credits at NCEA Level 1 History or English, however all candidates will be considered.

What are the course costs? - Possible trip to the Auckland Museum in Term 1 (TBC 2018).
